balmain PHOTOGRAPHY

I currently "specialize" in photographing commercial projects, and weddings. The commercial emphasis includes creating custom images for the web and designing web sites. After almost two decades of photojournalism and commercial photography I realize that creating tailored images (covering a broad subject range) for my clients is my specialty. Often a professional photographer must choose a narrow field in photography in order to get noticed. Sometimes this stifles creativity. I find that I enjoy making the two disciplines of commercial photography and photojournalism work together.
Photojournalists really have the best eye on the world. There is no other job that brings you as close to such a wide variety of events, both major and small. It's the only job that gives you an insight to everybody else's job. Photography has led me to work on five continents. Commercial work is equally rewarding. Working with a team and solving visual problems for clients has its own reward. Wedding photography is a demanding field but one that I also greatly enjoy. Many photographers hate wedding work. It can be hard, but quite satisfying in its own way. Without doubt the warmest thanks I have ever received for my photography has come from grateful wedding clients.
I have enjoyed working in America, Australia, Africa, India and just recently, China. I have done documentary work for clients like the Swedish Medical Center, The Red Cross and the AARP. My editorial work has appeared in major newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, Times of London, Toronto Star, AP, Tennis Magazine, Business Week, The National, Polo, Runners World and others. I have done portraits, illustrations, architecture and brochure work for clients on both coasts. I have received awards from the Associated Press and the National Press Photographers Association.
Technology is changing the industry more rapidly than ever. Working photographers must become experts in software, color management, and keep up with the rapid development of camera and computer hardware. I thrive on all of this. I also offer web design for clients. This includes the photography, file preparation, and the creation of pages using web standards XHTML and CSS. There are advantages to having one professional do both the photography and web design. Creating images for specific web placement can be a real time and money saver.
My photography philosophy is simple: becoming the best problem solver I can for my clients. A lot of professional photography these days has that generic "stock CD disc" look. I strive to produce custom "real" photographs that that cater to my client's individual needs.
